Snohomish County’s NCRTS Solid Waste Facility Service Disruption October 13-29

One of two compactors to be replaced at facility

EVERETT, Wash., October 8, 2021 - Just like any mechanically based operation, Snohomish County Solid Waste facility tools incur wear and tear over time. Thousands of customers visit each week as staff operate large machinery, such as compactors, to condense and move heavy piles of garbage to their proper destination. Snohomish County will replace a compactor that has reached the end of its useful life at the North County Recycling and Transfer Station (NCRTS) from October 13-29. This work will leave the facility with just one active compactor during the process – potentially causing some service delays for customers.

"Maintaining our equipment in proper working order is paramount to keeping our facilities at peak processing power,” Snohomish County Solid Waste Director Kevin Kelly said. “We are keeping the facility open during this scheduled maintenance because we understand how important these services are to Snohomish County residents and businesses. Our number one priority is making sure our facilities remain safe and of the highest quality for our customers."

Solid Waste is performing this temperature-dependent work outside of the facility’s busiest seasons to reduce the impact on customers. Garbage disposal customers are encouraged to use alternate Snohomish County Solid Waste facilities, such as the Airport Road Recycling and Transfer Station, to relieve service pressure from NCRTS. Residents are discouraged from using out-of-county facilities as each site is setup for a certain volume of refuse.

Here is a list of the alternate Snohomish County Solid Waste facilities available to customers:

Garbage and Recycling: 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Sunday and Thursday

Garbage and Recycling: 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday

Garbage and Recycling: 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday

Garbage and Recycling: 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., seven days a week

Garbage and Recycling: 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., seven days a week

The potential service delays will not impact recycling services at the NCRTS facility.
