• WHEN COAL WAS KING Frank Manowski in April 1974 (voiceofthevalley.com) — A longtime coal miner with deep Black Diamond roots eventually settled his family in Enumclaw, where his wife Helen was from and where they moved in 1959 near the hospital. Their son Frank went on to spend three decades coordinating recreation for King County Parks at the Enumclaw Fieldhouse, linking the family’s coal-country story directly to local parks and community life.
