SATURDAY: Dedication Ceremony for Coal Miners’ Honor Garden
The garden was created to remember the coal miners who lost their lives in Washington State mines and to honor coal miners and their families.

The Black Diamond Historical Society/Museum has created the “Coal Miners’ Honor Garden”, located on the grounds of the Black Diamond museum, to remember those coal miners who lost their lives in Washington State coal mines, to honor coal miners, their families, and the other pioneers who worked so hard to establish the coal mining communities.
Saturday, July 6, at 1 p.m. will be the dedication, during ”Miners Day”, of the Honor Garden which features a life-size bronze coal miner statue and a 28 foot granite memorial wall inscribed with the names of the over 1100 coal miners who lost their lives in the coal mines of Washington State.
The statue, by artist Paul Crites, is standing on a large granite pedestal and is surrounded by donation pavers which have personal inscriptions on them.
