To further the goals of the Gig Harbor City Council, City staff has convened a Climate Change Comprehensive Plan Amendment Committee (CCCPAC) to thoughtfully incorporate climate change into the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

The Gig Harbor City Council has prioritized goals and actions within the City’s Two-Year Strategic Plan (2022-2023) to promote environmental sustainability and address the climate change emergency. To further this priority, City staff has convened a Climate Change Comprehensive Plan Amendment Committee (CCCPAC) to thoughtfully incorporate climate change into the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The Climate Change Comprehensive Plan Amendment Committee will meet biweekly over the next few months to learn from subject matter experts and develop actionable goals for the City.

The CCCPAC includes both internal and external stakeholders working in a wide range of disciplines. Subject matter experts have been recruited to educate the CCCPAC on several topics including:

  • State and regional approaches and requirements to climate action
  • Sustainable buildings and construction
  • Energy sources and uses
  • Transportation issues
  • Land use
  • Waste management and reduction
  • Inclusive community engagement

The CCCPAC will review a draft Comprehensive Plan amendment in August, after which the amendment will be sent to the Planning Commission and move through the legislative process.
