City To Celebrate Completion Of 56th Street/Point Fosdick Project With Ribbon-Cutting

The City of Gig Harbor will celebrate the completion of the “56^thStreet/Point Fosdick Road Improvement Project” with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, March 7, 2013.

 

BACKGROUND

Work on this $3 million dollar project began last May and construction was completed six months ahead of schedule and $300,000 under budget. Funding for this project was through a State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant, City traffic impact fees and developer contributions.

The improvements consisted of the construction of a new roadway complete with storm drainage, sidewalks, and street lighting along with the replacement of the City’s sewer system.

 

UNIQUE IMPROVEMENT FACTS

This project was one of the original improvement projects identified from the City’s Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program schedule dating back to 1999. The City has since made numerous grant applications during that time to fund this necessary project. The City was selected for grant funding from TIB due in large part to the City’s and developer’s contributions as well as the City’s readiness to proceed to construction.

The public is invited to attend. The event will be held under a tent in the event of rain.
