GIG HARBOR, WA β€” An upcoming construction project is likely to cause some headaches for drivers in Gig Harbor, when crews resume work on the Harborview/Stinson Improvement Project.

Like the name suggests, the Harborview/Stinson Improvement Project aims to renovate the intersection of Harborview Drive and Stintson Avenue, near Eddon Boat Park.

Crews have worked on the intersection in the past, but suspended construction in October in anticipation of a wet winter. Now that the winter is nearly done, the City of Gig Harbor says they'll resume construction starting Feb. 28β€” and that work will continue through the end of July 2022.

During that time, Harborview Drive will be completely closed southbound between North Harborview Drive and Stinson Avenue. Drivers heading south will instead be directed on an alternate detour route, shown below.

As you might imagine, the city says it expects long traffic delays, slower speeds, and lane shifts during construction. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes when possible.
