Extension Of Coronavirus Related Special Use Regulation Suspension In City Of Gig Harbor

November 3, 2020

The City’s Community Development Director recommended to the Planning and Building Committee on November 2nd that the allowances be extended into 2021 in order to allow businesses to utilize outside areas for dining, retail, etc. The Committee voted 3-0 in favor of this extension and directed staff to bring the new Ordinance forward at the November 23rd City Council Meeting.

Based on Committee input, the new Ordinance under consideration would:

1. Continue the temporary suspension of Special Use Regulations (for qualifying businesses for COVID-19 related purposes) until December 31, 2021 or until 60 days after Pierce County enters Phase 4 of Safe Start Washington, and
2. Continue the temporary suspension of fees for Encroachment Permits (for qualifying businesses for COVID-19 related purposes) until December 31, 2021 or until 60 days after Pierce County enters Phase 4 of Safe Start Washington.

Requirements to utilize temporary suspensions:

1. Must be a business with a physical location in the City of Gig Harbor, and
2. Must have an approved City Business License, and
3. Must have legally established land use approval, and
4. Must comply with all State regulations pertaining to COVID-19.

The City proactively worked with many businesses in the past year to accomplish the above and we look forward to further assisting our community.
