Putting The "Gig" In The Harbor: Friday In GH
Real Carriage Door Company will row on the Porpoise to build team skills on Aug. 9.

Gig Harbor's Real Carriage Door Company will learn what it was like to row in the city's namesake boat on Friday, Aug. 9 at 2:15 p.m.
Gig Harbor Boatshopβs Longboat Program uses rowing as a team building exercise.Β The longboat,Β Porpoise, is a replica of the original "Gig" (or Longboat) that surveyed its present day namesake, Gig Harbor, during the Wilkes Expedition of the mid-1800's.Β PorpoiseΒ is 26.5 feet in length and can hold up to 14 people total, including a Captain and Crew member. It accommodates 12 passengers and has 10 oar ports from which to row. Depending on the conditions, the boat is powered by both the rowers and the sails.
