Sinkhole Forces Emergency Road Closure On Borgen Boulevard
The weeklong closure will begin Friday, limiting access to nearby roadways for locals only.
GIG HARBOR, WA β The City of Gig Harbor says a developing sinkhole has forced their hand, pushing city leadership to declare an emergency road closure along Borgen Boulevard.
"Early this year, the City found a section of Borgen Boulevard unraveling coinciding with heavy rains. By Spring, the City found a sink hole under the roadway and declared an emergency to excavate and perform geotechnical detective work to get to to bottom of the issue - unstable soil," the City said in a news release. "The City now has a contractor lined up to perform emergency repairs to Borgen Boulevard that include removing a significant section of the westbound travel lanes, installing a structural fabric and subgrade, then replacing the asphalt roadway, the concrete curb and gutter."
The closure will begin Friday and will impact all westbound lands of Borgen Boulevard between Peacock Hill and Olympus Way.
