Swift Water Elementary Locked Down For Police Investigation

Officers say the school was put in "modified lockdown" while they tracked the driver of a stolen car nearby. Lockdown has since been lifted.

GIG HARBOR, WA β€” Swift Water Elementary School was briefly locked down Friday while police tried to resolve a situation in the nearby area.

According to police, the incident involved the driver of a stolen vehicle, who had fled from officers on foot. The suspect was last seen by police in near the intersection of Borgen Boulevard and 51st street.

Swift Water is just a short trip south of the intersection at 10811 Harbor Hill Dr. Gig Harbor Police say the school was placed under "modified lockdown" while officers tried to track down the suspect nearby.

The driver has not been found, but officers say they no longer believe the suspect is in the area, so the lockdown has been lifted.

Swift Water Elementary is the newest Peninsula School District school and the first new elementary school added to the district in 34 years β€” though three other new elementary schools are in the works. Swift Water officially opened in January of this year.
