Pasco opens applications for choice high schools Orion and Delta (fox41yakima.com) — Kennewick 8th graders now have a chance to apply for limited seats at Delta High School, a STEM-focused choice school shared with Pasco and Richland. Applications for both Delta and Pasco’s Orion High School are open for the 2026–27 year, with a February 13 deadline, giving local families time to weigh these hands-on, project-based options.

T-Birds Catch Point in Kennewick (oursportscentral.com) — Kennewick hockey fans saw a thriller at the Toyota Center as the Tri-City Americans edged the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 in a seven-round shootout. Seattle grabbed a 3-1 lead on two first WHL goals but couldn’t close it out, settling for a single standings point and extending their losing streak to seven games.

3. Openings: Popular eatery revival + Richland restaurant closing (tri-cityherald.com) — Fans of Brother’s Cheese Steaks could soon see the beloved eatery return as a popup in downtown Kennewick, with plans to rebuild it as a food truck if all goes well. The January popup is expected either at Red Mountain Kitchen or El Fat Cat Grill, pending health district approvals. Kennewick coach seeks answers after Christmas gifts stolen (fox41yakima.com) — A Kennewick youth football coach is asking for help after Christmas gifts he’d just bought at Columbia Center Mall disappeared during a chaotic incident with an angry shopper. Brett Hall helped calm the disturbance, but believes a woman who seemed to assist may have left with his bag, and he and his wife hope she’ll return the items.

5. 2nd pedestrian this month killed on Hwy 395 near Oregon-WA border (tri-cityherald.com) — Two recent fatal pedestrian crashes on Highway 395 just over the Oregon line are drawing concern for Kennewick-area travelers who regularly use that stretch near Umatilla and I-82. Oregon State Police say both victims were struck before dawn, and one driver from Yakima has been arrested for failing to stop after the collision.
