City Hosting 'Neighborhood U' Session in Annexation Area

The City of Kirkland will host a “Neighborhood University” session to familiarize residents in annexation areas with city programs and services on Wednesday, May 11, from 6 to 9 p.m., at .

Leaders of Kirkland’s existing neighborhood associations will be on hand to discuss working with the city, and city staff will talk about topics such as street maintenance, recycling, and police and fire services.

Annexation takes effect June 1 for some 33,000 residents of north Juanita, Kingsgate and Finn Hill, and this session is part of the city’s effort to reach out to those communities.

Neighborhood U was designed by the Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods in 2000  as a way to periodically educate residents about city issues and processes, said Kari Page, the city's neighborhoods coordinator.

"This time the alliance wanted to bring everybody in to socialize a bit and talk about the history of how neighborhood associations work with the city," she said. 

The city council, which will provide free pizza and drinks, is asking for RSVPs by May 4. You may RSVP to NeighborhoodUReservations@kirklandwa.gov.

The meeting will be in the cafeteria of the school, which is at 9635 NE 132nd St. in Kirkland.
