Eleven Kirkland Students National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

They include four ICS students, three from Juanita High, three from Lake Washington High and one Kirkland student who attends Redmond High.

Ten students from Kirkland high schools, and one student from Kirkland who attends Redmond High, have been named semifinalists in the 55th annual National Merit Scholarship program.

A total of 16,000 high school seniors nationwide have qualified, giving them the opportunity to compete for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring, worth more than $34 million.

Students qualify for the awards by completing the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

Here are the local semifinalists:

  • : Pauline H. Chane, Redmond; Edward M. Cordell, Redmond; Jessica S. Jin, Redmond; Jack D. Speelman, Kirkland.
  • : Audrey H. Hsu, Kirkland; Sam H. Schwabacher, Kirkland; Luke Sironski-White, Kirkland.
  • : Peter J. Dolan, Kirkland; Suejean Hwangpo, Kirkland; Jake O. Nash, Kirkland.
  • Redmond High: Nolan A. Miller, Kirkland.
