Johnson and Fanning Combine on Two-Hitter As LW Downs Sammamish
The Kangs win 5-2 and are now 5-3 in the KingCo 3A/2A Conference.

Zach Johnson and Duke Fanning combined on a two-hitter and Nori Shimizu doubled and scored two runs as Lake Washington got back in the win column by beating Sammamish 5-2 Wednesday at Peter Kirk Park.
The Kangs are now 5-3 in KingCo 3A/2A play, one game back of second place Bellevue.
Bob Cruikshank's sacrifice fly scored Chris Moore from third in the bottom of the first to start the scoring. Sammamish tied it in the second inning on an RBI single, with LW taking the lead back in the third. Shimizu led off with a double and scored on another sacrifice fly, this one by Spencer Jackson.

A single run in the fourth inning came via a passed ball, with junior Theo Alexander scoring. The Kangs scored two more in the fifth on an RBI single by Jackson and a sacrifice fly by Alexander, Lake Washington's third of the day.
Trailing 5-1 in the sixth, Sammamish loaded the bases with one out. Fanning came out of the bullpen to retire five of the final six batters. Johnson earned the win, allowing two hits while striking out eight.

Sophomore Nick Johnson added another double, his team-leading fifth on the season. The younger Johnson has hit safely in all but one game this year. Cruikshank continued his consistent season, singling in the fifth inning to extend his hit streak to 14 games.
The Kangs return to Lee Johnson Field at Peter Kirk Park Friday at 7 p.m. to take on Liberty, which shut out LW 4-0 in the third game of the KingCo season.
