UPDATE: Redmond Man, 21, Arrested in Connection With Sunday Shooting

UPDATE, 2 p.m. Feb. 13: A 21-year-old Redmond man was arrested Monday on suspicion of first-degree manslaughter in connection with a fatal shooting at an Education Hill home on Sunday.

Patch typically does not release the names of individuals who have yet to be charged with a crime. Ian Goodhew, a spokesman for the King County Prosecutor's office, said he anticipated charges would be filed late Monday or early Tuesday.

Police say the suspect was a guest at a party early Sunday morning when he fired a 40-caliber semiautomatic handgun. A bullet went through a wall and struck the 20-year-old victim as she was standing on the other side, police said in a news release.

Police spokesman Jim Bove said it's still unclear why the suspect fired the gun but said his "reckless actions" are what led police to pursue first-degree manslaughter charges. Police believe the suspect fired only one shot, Bove said.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where she died at 9:58 a.m. Sunday. She has yet to be identified by the King County Medical Examiner.

Bove said the victim and suspect knew each other as aquaintances. The suspect remained at the scene after the shooting took place and has cooperated with police, he said.

The home where the shooting took place is currently rented out to a tenant, Bove said. Officers have previously responded to the residence on nuisance calls and one physical altercation, Bove said.

"We've been out there several times over the last several years," he said.

Sunday's incident was the first fatal shooting to occur in Redmond since 2008, when 23-year-old Arpana Jinagaw was killed after a Halloween party at the Valley View Apartments.

Crime scene investigators spent Sunday looking for evidence at a Redmond house where a 20-year-old Seattle woman was fatally shot earlier this morning.

A news release from the  indicated police first responded to the house, located in the 16800 block of NE 97th St., at about 3:30 a.m. on an emergency call of an unknown nature. The victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, was transported to Harborview Medical Center where she underwent surgery and died at 9:58 a.m.

Detectives have identified and interviewed a person of interest in the shooting, according to the news release. Police spokesman Lt. Charlie Gorman said he was unable to release the gender or age of that individual.

"It’s still an active investigation," he said. "I’m not sure how long it will take before we have something that we can put out to the public.”

Gorman said approximately 10 people had gathered Saturday evening at the residence where the shooting took place. Investigators from the Redmond Police Department joined the Washington State Patrol in processing the scene today, he said.
