St. John's Episcopal to Dedicate Labyrinth on 9/11

The labyrinth is a gift from a church member who recently moved from Kirkland to Idaho.

A labyrinth painted on the east parking lot of in Kirkland will be dedicated on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 11:30 a.m. during a ceremony open to the public.

The labyrinth was a gift from a church member who recently moved from Kirkland to Idaho. Labyrinths have been embraced by the Christian Church as early as 1201 at Chartres, and St. Johnโ€™s is a copy of one created at Chartres Cathedral in France.

โ€œWalking the labyrinth clears the mind and gives insight into the spiritual journey,โ€ according to the book Walking a Sacred Path โ€“ Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Practice, by Lauren Artress. โ€œIt calms people in the throes of life transitions. It helps them see their lives in the context of a path, a pilgrimage.โ€

The ceremony will be led by Fr. Scot Wright, rector at St. Johnโ€™s.

โ€œDedicating the labyrinth at the end the services on the day of the 10th anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11 will point the way to graceful new beginnings of hope that are found in God's love every single day,โ€ he said in a press release.

St. Johnโ€™s is at 105 State Street.
