Car Crash Blocking 1 Lane Of I-5 Near JBLM, One Injured

Troopers say to expect backups if you're heading through the area.

LAKEWOOD, WA — One person has been rushed to the hospital and several lanes of I-5 have been blocked after a car crash near Joint Base Lewis-McChord midday Thursday.

Update: as of 1:20 p.m. only one lane remains blocked.

According to Washington State Patrol, a driver had been heading south on the freeway, when their vehicle flew off the road just past JBLM's main gate.

The driver was critically injured, and has been rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Meanwhile, Washington State Patrol troopers, the Washington state Department of Transportation, and medics are on scene and working to clear the debris. The two rightmost lanes of the freeway remain blocked, and troopers say to expected delays if you're passing through the area.
