Driver Killed After Car Careens Off Road Near DuPont

According to witnesses, the driver was trying to pass a large truck, but lost control and flew down an embankment.

DUPONT, WA — One woman has died after her car flew off the roadway and into an embankment near DuPont over the weekend.

According to an update from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash in the 20400 block of Nisqually Rd SW just after 3 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, deputies say they found a small SUV that had ridden off the roadway, down a steep hill and collided with a tree. In the driver's seat was a 21-year-old woman, killed in the crash.

Search and Rescue Team members used ropes to pull the vehicle back onto the road, where it could be safely towed away.

According to witnesses, the deceased driver had tried to pass a large truck towing a trailer, but lost control and flew down the embankment. She was the only person inside the vehicle, and no other injuries have been reported.
