Lakewood City Council Appoints A Familiar Face To The Dais In Helen McGovern
Elected leaders on Monday night unanimously appointed McGovern, who served on the council between 2000 and 2009.

The Lakewood City Council welcomed a familiar face to its dais on Monday night.
The council unanimously appointed former Lakewood City Councilwoman Helen McGovern to the vacant position created by the departure of former Mayor Doug Richardson, who is now serving on the Pierce County Council.
Lakewood leaders chose McGovern - who served on the City Council between 2000 and 2009 - out of 12 candidates. She will serve until the position is up for re-election in November.

Lakewood City Council members said on Monday that given the short period of time an appointed city leader would have to learn facets of municipal government, they wanted to go with McGovern, who's already familiar with it.
