Lakewood Sewer Main Break Forces Road Closure, Flush Embargo

A sewer line failure in Lakewood had the city urging nearby homes not to flush their toilets Tuesday night.

LAKEWOOD, WA — A late night sewer main break is still causing lingering issues Wednesday morning for some Lakewood residents.

Update 9:30 a.m. Thursday: As of Thursday morning, Lakewood Drive remains closed, with no ETA for reopening.

Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, Pierce County Planning and Public Works announced that a sewer line had failed along Lakewood Drive, interrupting local sewer service and closing the road between Steilacoom Boulevard and 100th Street.

When the break was discovered, police and public works both posted to Facebook asking nearby residents not to flush their toilets.

Public Works has since posted an update saying that residents are cleared to flush and consume water as necessary, though the road will remain closed through Wednesday morning.
