Lakewood's 'Parade of Lights' Returns This December
What started as a pandemic precaution proved to be so popular that it's looking to become an annual event.

LAKEWOOD, WA — The City of Lakewood says last year's Parade of Lights celebration proved so popular, that they're bringing it back for winter 2021.
If you missed it, the parade of lights is a drive-through event, where visitors can roll past a maze of holiday displays, float parades and more.

The event started as a socially-distanced way to celebrate the holidays last winter, when Washington was still in the height of the pandemic, but so many people enjoyed it, the city wanted to bring it back for 2021.

“The pandemic necessitated some new holiday activities last year, and our ‘reverse light parade’ was very popular," said Jim Kopriva, Communications Manager for the City of Lakewood. "It might be a new family tradition. It’s a lot like driving around the neighborhood to enjoy the lights and the season – plus it’s nice and warm in the car.”
This year's Parade of Lights has been set for Saturday, December 11th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Fort Steilacoom Park. The event is free, so all visitors have to do to partake is show up in a car and enjoy the sights, but the call remains open for any clubs, businesses or other organizations who want to build a float for this year's show.
