Live Power Line Falls On I-5, Interrupting Traffic

The line blocked two lanes of traffic Thursday morning, causing significant delays for some commuters.

TACOMA, WA — Commuters were warned to expect delays as they passed through Tacoma Thursday morning, thanks to a live power line which has fallen onto the freeway.

Update: As of 11 a.m. the roadway has been reopened.

Washington State Patrol first reported the incident at around 9:30 a.m. The live line had fallen on northbound I-5 near the off ramps to Portland Avenue E.

As a result, first responders were forced to close the two rightmost lanes of I-5 northbound, plus the off ramp to Portland Avenue.
