PHOTOS: Lakewood Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Street Festival

Lakewood is turning 25 this year, and celebrated this weekend with an arts festival at Colonial Plaza. Here's a look back at the big day.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Here's to 25 more great years for the City of Lakewood! This weekend, Lakewood celebrated its 25 anniversary with a massive, multicultural street fair at Colonial Plaza.

Between pandemic setbacks, the party being rained out the weekend before, and other hurdles, it seemed like the anniversary celebration was cursed to be a disaster — but in the end it was a hit! On top of the customary fair vendors and food trucks, the party also featured cultural performances from Thailand, Mexico, Korea, and Guam — just some of the rich cultures that are a part of Lakewood's community.

The city even unveiled a new mural, painted by local students at the Clover Park school district, entitled "The World Lives in Lakewood."

The party also featured live performances by Chapter 5 and Michael Powers, and the Lakewood Historical Society even debuted a new exhibit about Ivan the gorilla — who lived at the B&I Marketplace in Lakewood for many years.

Overall, the city says the anniversary party was a major success, and they're thanking everyone who came together to make it happen — and the hundreds of people who came out to enjoy the festivities.
