Prolonged Closure Begins November As Lakewood Repairs Sewer
The city is warning drivers to expect a long road closure in November as crews fix a failed sewer main under Steilacoom Boulevard.
LAKEWOOD, WA — The City of Lakewood is warning residents to prepare for a long-term closure of Steilacoom Boulevard in November, when crews will need to fully close the road to repair damage to a busted sewer main.
A sewer main broke July 20 underneath Steilacoom Boulevard. The main break had the city warning residents not to flush their toilets for the night, and caused wastewater to spill out onto the road and into Chambers Bay. The sewer spillage forced the health department to close a number of nearby parks, and though they have since been reopened, crews still need to get under Steilacoom Boulevard to fix the issue and make sure it doesn't happen again.
Crews had to intermittently close portions of Steilacoom through August, but the upcoming construction will likely pose the longest and largest closure yet. The city has not set a date for the closure and has promised to release more information soon. The city did confirm that the road will be fully closed between Lakewood Drive and Bridgeport Way for the project.
