Tow Truck Strikes Semi On I-5 Near JBLM, Traffic Delays Likely

Three lanes of I-5 have been blocked near Joint Base Lewis-McChord thanks to a car collision midday Thursday.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Drivers heading south on I-5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord can expect to see some serious delays Thursday.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Robert Reyer confirms a tow truck and semi collided at milepost 120 of southbound I-5, right alongside JBLM.

According to Reyer, the tow truck hit the right rear of the semi while changing lanes. Though photos of the crash show the driver's side of the tow truck torn open, the driver only suffered minor injuries.

The driver has been taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, but is expected to recover. No other injuries have been reported.

However, the collision and resulting debris have forced troopers to close the three rightmost lanes of the freeway, and drivers are being told to expect delays if they are passing by.
