Hardy souls from Mercer Island endured high temperatures in the mid-80s on Monday to finish in the 116th annual Boston Marathon.
Thousands of entrants didn’t run the race this year, possibly because of heat warnings issued ahead of time, according to The Associated Press. A total of 22,426 runners started the race, about 84 percent of the registered field of 26,716 entrants, The AP reported.
