Mercer Island Youth Places Third at Judo National Tournament
Mercer Islander Tegan Yuasa placed third in his weight class at the 2012 USJF/USJA Junior National Judo Championships, July 8-9.
West Mercer Elementary student Tegan Yuasa, 9, placed third in his weight class at the 2012 USJF/USJA Junior National Judo Championships, July 8-9 in Spokane.
An estimated 450 competitors took part in the national tournament, which was dominated by dojos from California and Hawaii.
Tegan went 4-2 in the Intermediate 1 26kg Division and placed 3rd out of 13 kids from all across the country. His older brother, Taylan — a 10th grader at — competed in the Juvenile B 50kg Division and the IJF 50kg Division but didn't place.
