Power Restored to 100 Mercer Island Homes

Last night's high winds, ice and snow temporarily cut the power to homes on Mercer Island.

More than 100 homes were left without power on Mercer Island this morning due to the pre-Thanksgiving snowstorm, but crews have already restored power to those affected.

Puget Sound Energy reported 118 customers on the Island were without power late last night and early this morning. Power lines failed after they were coated with snow and ice formed on power lines and high winds.

Wind gusts reached more than 30 miles per hour overnight.

"Weather conditions have made it a little bit difficult to get around out on the roads, but our crews are working hard to restore power (to those affected)," said PSE spokesperson Abigail Elliott.

At its peak early Tuesday morning, 205 separate outages affected more than 90,000 customers. Currently there are 40 crews in the field working to restore power, and 16 crews on the way from out of state to help out with restoration. The vast majority of power outages occurred in Kitsap County, where 53,000 lost power.
