Aylen Junior High 50th Anniversary to Include History Slideshow, Alumni Choir

The community is invited to celebrate Aylen Junior High School's 50th Anniversary at an open house on Saturday, April 27. Show your Falcon pride and get involved.

Aylen Junior High School is turning 50 years old and is throwing it's own special birthday party for the community.

The open house will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the junior high and will include a slideshow of photos over the past 50 years, historical displays, a building tour, a time capsule dedication, and songs from each of the past five decades.

The school is located at 101 15th St. S.W. in Puyallup.

Invitation to school alumni singers

Aylen Junior High alumni who sang in the school choir during the past 50 years are invited to sing with the 50th Anniversary Alumni Choir. Peggy Burrough, retired Aylen Junior High and Puyallup High choir director, will direct the alumni choir.

Interested choir alumni should send their name, contact information, and the years and part sung in the choir to aylen.alumni.choir@gmail.com.

Music will be sent to participants before the one rehearsal scheduled at 10 a.m. on the same day as the open house. The rehearsal will be held in the Aylen Junior High choir room.

Request for school photos and artifacts

The Aylen Anniversary Celebration Committee requests alumni and former staff members share artifacts or photos (except those published in school yearbooks) from their years at Aylen Junior High to be included in a slideshow presentation during the open house.

Send scanned copies of the photos or artifacts to aylenfalcons@gmail.com by Friday, April 12.

School history

Aylen Junior High opened in November 1962 as West Junior High School. In 1970, the school was renamed Aylen Junior High in honor of Charles H. Aylen, a general practitioner and a 12-year member of the Puyallup School Board.

The school was rebuilt with money from the voter-approved 2004 school bond and opened in fall 2008. The 106,000-square-foot building is built to serve 800 students.
