Congratulations to both the winners for their work recognizing Puyallup's community spirit. The awards are sure to lift the spirits of city organizers who have recently been embroiled in a bit of an arts-related debacle: the city recently unveiled a proposal to build a brand-new city welcome sign at the intersection of Meridian and SR 512 — but public feedback to the proposed design was so strong and overwhelmingly negative they've had to table the proposal.
