Machete Attack Severely Injures Person: Tacoma Police

TACOMA, WA — A person suffered severe injuries after she was attacked with a machete in Tacoma, according to police.

Officers responded at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a fight in the 7800 block of South Trafton Street, police said. A male and female had visited a man in his recreational vehicle, according to police, who said the RV owner took the female’s phone and wouldn’t return it, leading to a fight.

The RV owner attacked the female with a machete, and the 59-year-old man was arrested on a charge of first-degree assault, police said, adding he was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the fight.

The male who had accompanied the female was hurt trying to intervene in the machete attack, and he and the female both sought treatment for their injuries at a hospital, according to police, who said the female’s injuries were serious but neither of their injuries were life-threatening.
