Pierce County Councilmember Hans Zeiger Announces Resignation
Zeiger will be stepping aside at the end of July to become president of the Jack Miller Center.

PUYALLUP, WA — Pierce County Councilmember Hans Zeiger has announced that he will be resigning from his position before the summer is over.
In a letter to his constituents Friday, Zeiger explained that he would be stepping down from the council on July 31 to accept a new role as president of the Jack Miller Center, a national nonprofit organization focused on American history and civics.
In his letter, Zeiger thanks Pierce County residents for their support, while expressing excitement for the job ahead.

"My time in state and local government has been an adventure and a privilege, filled with the joys and challenges of collaboration and problem-solving and service," Zeiger wrote. "Representative democracy has been called an “experiment in self-government,” and I will bring all the lessons and experiences of my time in state and local service with me to the work of advancing America’s civic ideals."
Zeiger, a Republican, served in both the Washington Senate and Washington House of Representatives before assuming the Pierce County Council's District 2 seat from Pam Roach in January 2021. Before that, he was commissioned as an officer in the Washington Air National Guard.

Zeiger's District 2 represents Puyallup, South Hill, Sumner, Edgewood, Milton, Pacific, and Summit View. Following his resignation, anyone who has lived within the district for at least one year will be eligible to file to become Zeiger's replacement. Afterwards, the Republican Party will present three of those applicants to the Pierce County Council, who make the final selection. Zeiger has promised more information on that process at a later date.
"I will have more to say about my reflections on public service and local government, and my gratitude for friends, family, fellow citizens, colleagues, and staff, in the weeks ahead. For now, let me just say thank you for the opportunity you have given me to serve our community," Zeiger said.
