Pierce County Trails Day Is Saturday

The sunshine will stick around for the annual Pierce County Trails Day this weekend, with free community events planned across the region.

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — The last Saturday of July is this weekend, and that means it's time to get outside and celebrate Pierce County's outdoor spaces and trail systems. Each year the county celebrates Pierce County Trails Day, which highlights the region's beauty and recreational area, complete with free outdoor events and free transit options to help neighbors join in the fun.

Hosted by ForeverGreen Trails, Pierce County neighbors can participate in outdoor fun around Tacoma, Lakewood, Parkland, Gig Habor, Puyallup, and elsewhere, and many of the events are accessible by public transit for free. The schedule includes activities across abilities and age groups, including wildlife viewing, hikes, skateboarding, and biking, along with habitat restoration, trail maintenance and park cleanups.

Pierce Transit buses, SHUTTLE paratransit and Runner will run fair-free to help people get to events, and Pierce Trips is running a photo contest. Residents can enter by posting photos on Facebook or Twitter using either the "#TrailsDay" or "Transit2Trails" hashtags and tagging them for a chance to win a prize.
