Calvin F. Smith said he bought the winning ticket from the Fred Meyer on Meridian Avenue East, which is the retailer that has sold the most winning tickets in Puyallup.

A Puyallup man is the latest winner for Washington’s Lottery Hit 5 game, according to the Washington’s Lottery website.

On Thursday, April 25, Calvin F. Smith saw that someone had won the jackpot in his area, and so checked his ticket that evening after work.

Of the multiple entries he played, he won the jackpot of $130,000 on the first set of numbers on the ticket.

He spoke to his wife immediately over the phone, but waited to reveal the news that he had won until she came home.

He asked her to check the ticket and said, “I think we may have won a little bit.” After she checked the numbers, she thought they had only won $9,000.

When she realized that they won the jackpot, her husband said, “She was ecstatic; and was yelling and jumping everywhere.”

They went out for dinner that evening and imagined how they would use the prize to buy a new home.

He has been close to winning the Lotto game five times before, but this is his first big win.

He bought the winning ticket from the Fred Meyer on 17404 Meridian Avenue East, which is the retailer that has sold the most winning tickets in Puyallup. The retailer will receive a $1,300 selling bonus.

In the past year, there have been more than 1.9 million winners or $12 million in winnings for the Washington Hit 5.
