Utility Rates Increase in Puyallup

The rate change will result in an increase of $4.34 for the average residential customer, per billing cycle starting in May 2013.

Puyallup residents will see a utility bill increase in the May payment cycle, as new rates went into effect March 1. The new rate will appear on all bills received on or after May 10, 2013.

The average residential customer will see an increase of $4.34 in utility costs per bimonthly billing cycle, or a 2.6 percent increase, according to the City of Puyallup.

The 2013 rate adjustment reflects the annual cost of inflation according to the most recent Engineering News-Record Construction Cost Index, and it is an important element of providing for long term infrastructure repair and replacement, the city of Puyallup stated in a press release.

The utility rates were last increased in November 2008.

Utility rates for future years will also be adjusted during the city’s annual budget adoption process to reflect changes in the Construction Cost Index. These annual changes must be ratified by the City Council. The rate change was approved in Ordinance No. 3028 in January 2013.
