Washington State Fair Begins Friday: What To Know For 2022

PUYALLUP, WA — The Washington State Fair opens for the 2022 season Friday, welcoming neighbors from across the region to enjoy the sights and sounds over Labor Day weekend and through most of September. The annual fair is the largest event held each year in Washington and ranks among the largest in the United States.

Many of the classics are making their return to the fairgrounds this year, along with a slate of new attractions and offerings. "Expedition: Dinosaurs" invites families to learn about some of history's largest reptiles through interactive displays and animatronic creatures.

The SillyVille Train is running on an extended track this year, and visitors can take a ride all the way south toward the Green Gate. Also coming back this year are the "extreme dogs," showcasing world champion trainers and their high-flying pups.

New menu offerings include fried cheese sticks prepared in American, Korean and Italian styles, a donut hamburger and deep-fried mac 'n cheese housed inside a waffle cone.

Visitors who attend the first day of the fair Friday will be granted free admission if they bring non-perishable food to donate to the Puyallup Food Bank. BECU Free Kids Weekend grants free admission to visitors 18 and under through Labor Day. Military members can access the fair for free every Monday.

Fireworks displays are scheduled on Sept. 2, Sept. 9, Sept. 16 and Sept. 23, and the Puyllaup Rodeo runs from Sept. 8 through Sept. 11.
