Yay! Pioneer Way To Reopen Today, Police Say

Puyallup police say Pioneer Way should reopen Tuesday after a mudslide over the weekend.

PUYALLUP, WA - Police are saying a stretch of Pioneer Way closed due to a mudslide should reopen on Tuesday.

The slide happened on Saturday afternoon, and Pioneer Way is blocked on the east side from Sumner at SR 162 and on the west side just past Shaw Road.

It's been a tough winter for Pioneer Way. This week's mudslide is the third one to close this stretch of Pioneer Way - between 134th Avenue East and Shaw Road - since the beginning of February.

The roadway was last closed over President's Day weekend due to a landslide. Police and city officials closed the road overnight on Feb. 9 for a slide near 33rd Street Southeast (just east of Shaw Road East).

But Pioneer Way isn't out of the woods yet. Rain is forecast every day this week, which could further destabilize already weak soil.
