25 Lake Washington Teachers Receive National Board Certification

More than two dozen Lake Washington employees received the highest certification in teaching, district officials announced Wednesday.

REDMOND, WA — More than two dozen teachers in Redmond, Kirkland and Eastlake were recently awarded National Board Certification, according to the Lake Washington School District. In a news release Wednesday, the district recognized four teachers who received the top teaching certification for the first time and 21 others who renewed their certification.

According to the district, the process to achieve a National Board Certification, which is considered the profession's highest credential, takes one to five years and must be renewed once a decade to stay current. Overall, nearly 300 Lake Washington teachers have earned their certifications.

"National Board Certification represents a strong commitment to pursuing a high standard of excellence as an education professional, " said Jon Holmen, the district's superintendent. "I congratulate all of our teachers who have achieved this certification and demonstrated the resilience to complete this process during increased challenges associated with the pandemic."
