Seattle's Skate Like a Girl hits new hurdles as the nonprofit looks to the future (bellinghamherald.com) — A formative girls skate contest in Redmond helped inspire the growth of Skate Like a Girl, now a multi-city nonprofit creating inclusive skate spaces. As the group marks its 25th anniversary, it’s celebrating rising participation while confronting funding cuts, leadership changes, and the loss of a dedicated Seattle space after a 2024 crash.

The company is keeping its Gig Harbor site open and hopes to turn its Fort Collins space into a fully gluten-free restaurant, citing rising operating costs and a challenging hospitality climate.
   

4. Washington residents face dire flood conditions along swelling rivers (seattletimes.com) — Life-threatening river flooding is forecast to extend into areas east of Redmond, with officials warning of catastrophic conditions that could threaten homes, roads, and levees. Evacuations, rescues, and road closures are already happening across Western Washington, and residents near rivers are urged to closely follow evacuation orders and National Weather Service updates. Even urban drains clogging could quickly trigger dangerous localized flooding.
