Strike Update: Workers' Union Submits Proposal to Waste Management

The strike at Kirkland-based Waste Management that continues today, but early this morning a company spokesman said there is some possible movement.

Robin Freedman, a representative of Waste Management, told Patch that Teamsters Local 117, which represents the workers, submitted a proposal late Sunday night and that the company is currently reviewing that proposal.

Meanwhile, Waste Management has brought in a planning to focus today on commercial pickups in its coverage area. The company said it is also arranging to hire qualified local replacement drivers it identified in a job fair last month.

For those who wish to haul their own trash away, King County transfer stations are open, but the county warned residents on its website that they could face picket lines and traffic disruptions at transfer stations as the strike continues.
