A spokesperson for Harrell told KIRO 7 that the mayor was sworn in at his home, and said he won't have a public swearing-in ceremony — but, the TV station was told, Harrell plans to hold a smaller celebratory event on Tuesday.
Harrell is the city's second Black mayor and first elected mayor of Asian descent, KIRO 7 reported. An attorney by occupation, he served on the Seattle City Council from 2007 to 2019 and was twice elected Council President.
