Residents are urged to keep toilet lids closed, flush immediately if a rat appears, and follow the online instructions to reduce food and grease odors that attract rodents.

Video shows random attack on 75-year-old woman in downtown Seattle (komonews.com) — A 75-year-old woman was seriously injured in a random attack outside the King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle, intensifying concerns about safety around Third Avenue. Newly released police and surveillance videos show officers quickly detaining a suspect long known to local law enforcement for prior assaults. The victim’s family is demanding answers about why he remained on the streets.
   

3. Power lines spark large fire in Seattle's Central District (fox13seattle.com) — A major fire in Seattle’s Central District Friday night drew a three-alarm response after downed power lines ignited a building on 34th Avenue near East James Street. Seattle firefighters worked to douse the flames and protect nearby homes, with the blaze visible to drivers on the I-90 bridge. Officials are still gathering details as this story develops.
   

4. WA Transportation Commission approves Martin Luther King Jr. Way extension following Sen. Kauffman memorial (thefactsnewspaper.com) — State transportation officials have approved extending the Martin Luther King Jr. Way designation from south Seattle through Renton along the full length of SR 515. The change, long sought by community leaders, will more visibly honor Dr. King along this busy corridor linking Seattle with south King County. New signage will be designed and installed by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
   

5. Seattle Children's nurses to take strike vote Dec. 21 and 22 (wsna.org) — Nurses at Seattle Children’s Hospital will vote Dec. 21–22 on whether to authorize a strike, which would be the first in the hospital’s 118-year history and could affect pediatric care for Seattle families. They’re pushing for better sick leave, night‑shift premiums, rest breaks, and protections from workplace violence, with support from the Washington State Nurses Association and local leaders.
