CVS Begins Offering Moderna Boosters To Eligible Washingtonians

SEATTLE — Eligible patients looking for a place to scoop a COVID-19 booster shot can now grab a Moderna shot from one of the dozens of CVS pharmacies across Western Washington.

The pharmacy giant announced Friday that it had begun offering the Moderna booster at more than 9,800 locations across the country, including in Washington. Those locations also offer the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster for those that want it — though, as CVS Health notes, the CDC's latest recommendations allow for mix-and-match dosing for booster shots, meaning Pfizer patients could take a Moderna booster and vice versa.

Patients are eligible for booster shots if it has been six months or more since they completed primary vaccination, and are:

• Adults 65 years old and older or residents of long-term care settings.
• Adults age 50 to 54 with underlying medical conditions.
• Adults age 18 to 49 with high risk for severe COVID-19.
• Adults age 18 to 64 who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure because of occupational or institutional hazards.

The CDC also recommends boosters for patients 18+ who took the Johnson & Johnson shot two or more months ago.

Patients interested in taking a Moderna or Pfizer booster can schedule an appointment at CVS.com, but will need to provide details on the manufacturer and date of their last COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, CVS says it remains committed to offering vaccines to unvaccinated patients as well.

“The systems we’ve built and our deep experience in providing vaccinations allows us to play a leading role in administering booster shots to eligible populations,” said Troyen A. Brennan, M.D., MPH, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of CVS Health. “We also remain focused on providing easy and convenient opportunities for the unvaccinated to receive their first doses.”

In total, CVS says it has administered 34 million COVID vaccines and 32 million COVID-19 tests across the country.
