OLYMPIA, WA — The grand prize winner of the $1,000,000 "Shot of a Lifetime" lottery came forward to accept his check at a conference in Olympia Friday.

The winner, a South King County mechanic identified as Kameron M, shared the stage with Gov. Jay Inslee as the governor handed him his million-dollar check, the fifth and final cash prize of the state's vaccine incentive lottery.

Before presenting the check, the governor thanked Kameron for doing his part to protect others by getting vaccinated.

"He's getting a million-dollar check, but he's done something for the state of Washington himself, which is to get this vaccine and save other people's lives," Inslee said.

Kameron told reporters he hadn't even known about the Shot of a Lifetime lottery, which randomly selected winners from the more than four million vaccinated adults in Washington state. Instead, he said he had simply chosen to get vaccinated out of respect for others.

"I wanted to be safe with everyone around me, I wanted my family to be safe, and my peers," said Kameron. "Thank you so much."

Joining Kameron was his partner of nearly 3 years, Brie. When asked if the money would change their relationship, Brie laughed and said that it would not.

"When we met, I was actually paying for the first dates and stuff," she joked.

Kameron may have claimed the grand prize, but more than 350 other Washingtonians won something as well. Other prizes included a pair of Seattle Seahawks tickets, 88 Microsoft Xboxes, Seattle Reign tickets and a signed team jersey, 51 Amazon Echo dots, and 148 Discover Passes, plus all the unclaimed prizes left over from the first four drawings.

According to Gov. Inslee, the Shot of a Lifetime vaccine lottery prompted a 24 percent increase in vaccination rates across all ages in Washington, inspiring an estimated 30,000 additional Washingtonians to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

"This promotion has been life-changing, certainly for Kameron and our other winners, but also for many Washingtonians who were motivated to receive the vaccine," said Marcus Glasper, Director of the Washington State Lottery.
