New LCB Rules Bring Together The Dream Team: Axes And Liquor

Darts are no longer the only missiles that can be thrown at Washington state bars.

SEATTLE — Picture this extremely common scenario. You are at your local bar, sipping on some vodka sodas and chatting it up with your mates, when a thought strikes you: I wish I could do some lumberjack-adjacent activities, booze in hand.

Well that suspiciously-specific thought is about to become less of a dream, and more of a reality, thanks to the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board, which on Wednesday voted to allow axe throwing at select bars and liquor licensed premises.

Axe throwing has actually become a pretty popular activity over the past few years, and many states have jumped on the bandwagon by allowing bars to set up their own axe throwing facilities, but the combination of axes and liquor was still taboo in Washington— until now. Under the LCB's new rules, bars hoping to feature axe tossing will have to create a safety operating plan. The LCB says it will create a template for the safety operating plan and application instructions soon, which will be posted to its website once available.

The rules will go into effect on June 9 of this year. If you can't wait until then, there are a number of axe throwing facilities across the Sound, just beware you'll have to participate sober.
