Kent Murder Suspect Shot While Trying To Escape From Harborview

SEATTLE, WA - A 19-year-old Federal Way man accused of murdering his 18-year-old girlfriend was shot on Wednesday outside Harborview Medical Center while he was allegedly trying to escape.
A King County Sheriff's Office jail guard shot Giovanni Herrin, 19, outside the hospital near the intersection of Yesler and 8th Avenue. Herrin escaped from the hospital around 10:14 a.m., according to Seattle police. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.
Herrin has been charged with murder in connection to the mid-June shooting death of Karyme Barreto, 18. She was found along a trail at a small park near SR 99 on June 16.

When police attempted to arrest Herrin, he fled, leading multiple police agencies on a chase that ended in a crash in Des Moines. Herrin was taken to Harborview Wednesday from the county jail after he complained of feeling sick.
