Popular Seattle Deli Closing After 47 Years

Bakeman's Restaurant in downtown Seattle is calling it quits.

SEATTLE, WA -- A popular sandwich shop in downtown Seattle is closing after 47 years in the business. Bakeman's Restaurant told Seattle Magazine it's closing its doors as the owner Jason Wang readies for retirement.

The magazine reported that Wang's father opened the restaurant in 1970.

"He had hoped to do the same with his twentysomething sons (the eldest currently bakes the restaurant’s bread), but they are hesitant to take on the responsibility of providing for a daily lunchtime crowd of 300-400," Seattle Magazine reported.

But there's hope the restaurant could reopen.

"Wang is leaving the door open for some sort of return. His retirement plans so far are to 'goof around' and if he gets bored he will consider starting a new, smaller place, maybe with his sons," the magazine reported.
