Seattle Police Approve Contract, Ending 3.5 Years Of Negotiations
While officers are already now almost four years into their new six-year contract, they are very happy that negotiations are finally done.

SEATTLE, WA – It only took 3.5-years of negotiations but officers with the Seattle Police Department finally are on the verge of having a new contract. The union representing the officers overwhelmingly approved the new contract Thursday.
It's a six-year pact that runs from January 1, 2015 when the last contract ran out until December 31, 2020.
Negotiations started in 2015 after the previous contract ran out. The union had rejected a previous contract proposal in 2016. Get all the latest information on what's happening in your community by signing up for Patch's newsletters and breaking news alerts.

Under the new contract, officers will receive retroactive 17 percent pay raises. At the same time, they have agreed to changes in the Office of Police Accountability's disciplinary system that will make it easier for the department to fire officers for dishonesty.
The contract now goes to the city council for approval.
