These 8 Washington Hospitals Are Among The Best In U.S.: Newsweek

WASHINGTON — Eight of Washington's hospitals are among the best in the nation, according to a new ranking by Newsweek.

The magazine’s “World’s Best Hospitals” list for 2021 ranked the top hospitals around the world, including in the United States. It’s the third year Newsweek has published the list, for which it partnered with the data firm Statista.

Five Washington hospitals ranked among the top 200 in the U.S., while another three hospitals were included in the overall list but did not rank among the top 200.

Here’s how Washington hospitals were ranked on the list:

1. University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle: No. 22
2. Virginia Mason Medical Center, Seattle: No. 48
3. Swedish Medical Center, Seattle: No. 133
4. EvergreenHealth Medical Center, Kirkland: No. 158
5. Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, Vancouver: No. 167
6. Harborview Medical Center, Seattle: No. 206
7. Confluence Health - Central Washington Hospital, Wenatchee: No. 278
8. Kadlec Regional Medical Center, Richland, No. 315

In its methodology, Newsweek explained that it looked at three data sources to compile the rankings: recommendations from medical experts, results from patient surveys and medical KPIs on hospitals.

Hospitals in the U.S. were also recognized for infection prevention if they performed above the national average based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

These four Washington hospitals were recognized by Newsweek for infection prevention:

University of Washington Medical Center

Virginia Mason Medical Center

EvergreenHealth Medical Center

Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center
