Washington November 3 2020 Election Results

WASHINGTON — The polls have been closed for a day now, but the results will continue to shift as Washington election officials count all the remaining votes cast in the Nov. 3 general election.

In the weeks leading to the election, state leaders hinted that the voter turnout had been record-breaking, but a new threshold was passed Wednesday when the state counted it's four millionth vote. According to the governor, it is the first time ever that four million Washingtonians have voted in a single election.

Of those ballots, election officials have counted 3,572,616 votes as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, with an estimated 418,226 ballots remaining to be processed. Despite complaints from White House officials about ballots continuing to be counted after Election Day, Washington state will continue to tally all legally cast votes as necessary until the vote is certified.

Under state law, all ballots that had been left in drop boxes or that had been mailed and postmarked before the election must be counted. In rare cases, or in the case of military residents voting from overseas, ballots postmarked on time may take several days to reach election officials, meaning results will continue to change as the week goes on. Federal law requires states wait three weeks before certifying the election, so the final, exact results of Washington's vote will not be known until Nov. 24.
